Robert Undisclosed Verified Purchaser | ★★★★★ ★★★★★ Yes I will I have owned other brand name smokers with poor results. What I like about the PIT BOSS smoker I purchased from you is the ability to talk to a person on the phone. They answered any question I had. After receiving my smoker I was impressed with the quality of this product. As a machinist this meant a lot to me. Then after using my smoker I am in love with this thing. The controls are straight forward and actually work unlike other smokers I have owned. Great product will recommend to my friends and family. | Was This Helpful? |
Lantz Undisclosed Verified Purchaser | ★★★★★ ★★★★★ great cooker, fantastic service! So far I love this thing! Done turkey breast, whole chickens, salmon, meatballs, pork loin all at the spectrum of Temps this smoker will do, and everything's been great. We are going to do pizza on a stone next, can't wait! Better than the smoker, the staff at BBQGUYS! My first unit arrived with shipping damage, and at 5 PM on a Saturday, I emailed them. By 6:00 they had contacted me, asked for pictures of the damage and arranged a replacement. ON A SATURDAY EVENING! My new go-to for outdoor cooking needs, already ordered some accessories and a second temp probe, the new order arrived in just days. These people are fantastic to do business with ...... | Was This Helpful? |
8055 Chandler OK. Verified Purchaser ![]() | ★★★★★ ★★★★★ 8 months review (2nd review) I have used my Series 3 every weekend for the past 8 months, the only problem I've had was that the control board face plate warped & the internal temp. probe failed these were promptly replaced at no charge. As for temp. swings my smoker stays close to set temp with an occasional swing of +/- 10-20 degrees when more pellets are fed through, better than my stick burner. This smoker produces a good amount of smoke as you can see by the smoke ring in the picture of the last brisket I smoked. To accommodate a larger brisket or a full rack of ribs I made a riser rack out of a cheap rack to lift the middle of the meat & gained an extra 4" of rack space without having to trim or cut the meat, you can use 2 & get even more space. To be one the safe side I also drain pellets after each cook to prevent jams. All in all the Series 3 is a great smoker (will be upgrading to the Series 5 soon) excellent customer service, if you haven't yet do yourself a righteous & buy one. | Was This Helpful? |
Chep Fl Verified Purchaser ![]() | ★★★★★ ★★★★★ Great Smoker I bought my smoker over two years ago, I use it all the time, my only question do they make a Bluetooth control for this smoker? | Was This Helpful? |
ChrisG82 Church Point, La Verified Purchaser ![]() | ★★★★★ ★★★★★ Hands Down Best Investment!!! For lil over $300 you can't beat this smoker. In no time you're burning and smoking. Came with one meat prob but not a big deal. Love the clear glass to see the smoking progress. First time smoking was under 6 hours and had to put 20oz of water 3 times. But still not a big issue. Looks awesome on the porch, "smoke-appeal". Huge hopper, dumped a whole 40lb bag of pellets and think probably could of took some more. I'm beyond Ecstatic with this smoker and so is family after those ribs and chicken!!! | Was This Helpful? |

Jim69 Tullahoma Verified Purchaser ![]() | ★★★★★ ★★★★★ New to pellet smoker Love my new smoker first time was 5 Boston butts definitely great. | Was This Helpful? |
Barkman Indiana Verified Purchaser ![]() | ★★★★★ ★★★★★ Smokey Success (3 smokes in butt, ribs, burgers) Hopefully a useful review. I recently lost a great friend, my old wood chip cabinate smoker. Loved that little guy. He gave plenty of smoke and predictable performance. Unable to get the same model, I made the move to my first Pit Boss/ first pellet grill.
I was worried about level and quality of smoke and was put off by many reviews, but as life without a smoker is no life at all, I decided to take the plunge. I use my smokers at least weekly, but am busy with a sack full of kids and a demanding job, so my dream of a stick burner is still 5 kids and a retirement away. I am three smokes in (Butt, ribs, burgers) will update this down the road) and here is what I have found.
First: READ THE INSTRUCTIONS! Especially if you haven't had a pellet smoker before. I ran into a relative with a similar model, which helped immensely. It's a different experience all together.
Assembly: Not terrible, but definitely a lot more than I expected. Took me maybe 45 min.
Burn off: Again, read the instructions. Do your burn off, it's quick, painless, and smells awesome.
Temperature control: As opposed to many smokers, this unit offers temperature controls on a dial that has increments of 25 to 50 deg increase or decrease. Some people complain about this, but most anybody that smokes has about 4 varying temperatures they would actually use regularly. When you get into the grill features, that's where you may wish you had more control. Worked ideally for the three differing smokes I've tried, including cheese filled burgers.
Smoke setting; I love... Love the smoke setting. This grill will run with smoke at 160 degrees. I used this to add extra smoke flavor without cooking too quickly. Made my burgers and ribs awesome.
Cook temp: the cabinate vacilantes widely between a little lower than your desire cook temp. While heating it can get quite a bit higher than your set temp. This is because it heats in cycles. It burns pellets to raise the temp, then circulates the hot air/smoke. Don't freak out. These variations are no different than what my stick burner buddies describe to me and had no ill effect on smoke time/quality.
Smoke flavor: Nothing is going to give you smoke as powerful as a charcoal/wood offset, but this does pretty great. If you like food so smokey you want it in your sinuses for days afterwards, this isn't the way to go. But we had great smokey food that was more than smokey enough, especially when we used the smoke only setting.
Other thoughts: I have a lot more to try with this, but I found that what we made, the settings we used, and the accessories we used (temp probe etc.) didn't disappoint. My crew, who loves smoked food, had nothing negative to say.
One note. If you are one that works with drippings from your smoked meats (like me) oddly this smoker produces very little in the ways of drippings.
To me this smoker/grill is a win. Will update again in a few more smokes. | Was This Helpful? |
GRRUMPA Az. SCENIC Verified Purchaser ![]() | ★★★★★ ★★★★★ GREAT UNIT & CUSTOMER SERVICE I agree with the gentleman that had issues with the control panel needs to be relocated.
I'm on my second controller & it is starting to separate the clear cover is all ready starting to peel at the top & I've only cooked 5 times scent I installed the new one (under warranty).
I called the customer service department and they sent out the new one with out any hassle (THANKS) OTHER THAN that problem it is a great unit. Kept pillets dry clean out the burner & you should be able to smoke at hi temps with out fire occurring
Again we need to move the controls to better spot or a better cover for the controls | Was This Helpful? |

Back to TopThe Skinny:
- Temperature range between 150–450 degrees Fahrenheit
- Large-capacity hopper for extended cooks
- Large window to monitor food
- Designed with sturdy materials
Things We Love
Temperature-control Features
You can’t have low-and-slow cooking without consistently low temperatures. That’s why the guys at Pit Boss designed their Copperhead Series pellet smokers with easy-to-use controls that let you pinpoint exact heat levels within the 150–450-degree temperature range. When you’ve got guests to entertain or food to prepare, there’s nothing better than the 10 temperature presets and startup and cooldown cycles found on the Copperhead smokers.
It’s when you’re cooking, though, that these features really shine. Several components of these Pit Boss smokers — the external heat indicator, included meat probe with digital LED readouts, and large viewing window — allow you to stay informed without opening the door and letting precious heat or smoke escape (the sturdy door latch deserves some praise, too). If you need to open the door to show off the goods or just want an extra boost of flavorful smoke, there’s also a prime function that burns a new batch of pellets with a 300-watt ignitor and fan-forced draft.
Durable & Efficient Design
At this point, you might be wondering why Pit Boss calls these smokers Copperheads. It has nothing to do with snakes (no judgement if smoked snake is on the menu at your next cookout) — instead, the name comes from the beautiful hammertone copper finish of these pellet cookers. Underneath that attractive finish is a cold-rolled, double-walled steel body with high-heat coating, giving Copperhead Series smokers the durability for years of cooking.
But Pit Boss also values an efficient smoking experience, so Copperhead models come with a slide-out grease tray and ash pan for simple cleanup. Moving the smoker around is even easier thanks to two front swivel caster wheels and two more in the rear that can lock into place. For those who’d like to give water-smoking a try, the included water pan can be filled with marinades or other liquids to provide extra flavor and moisture. Trust us, you’ll want to give it a try.
Large-capacity Hopper
Did we mention these pellet smokers can cook a whole bunch of food? The two Copperhead Series models have different pellet capacities and cooking areas, but the smaller 3 Series edition shouldn’t be overlooked. With the Pit Boss Copperhead 3 Series, you get 800 square inches of cooking space across four adjustable racks and a hopper that can hold up to 35 pounds and smoke for 18 hours. The Pit Boss Copperhead 7 Series, meanwhile, boasts 2,059 square inches of cooking area, six porcelain-coated racks, a 60-pound hopper, and a smoke time of up to 24 hours!
No matter which model you choose, the hopper has a side window to check fuel levels, a hinge door for quick refills, and a clean-out door to empty the pellets or change flavors. Just keep in mind that the Copperhead Series works best with Pit Boss pellets.
Things to Consider
If your goal is to smoke at low temperatures for an extended period of time without refilling your fuel, the Pit Boss Copperhead Series is a great option for you. But we know you may have more questions about these smokers, which is why our BBQ experts are standing by at 1-877-743-2269 to help you make the right decision.
