Fuego Grills
Former Apple Computer creative executive Robert Brunner has 26 IDSA industry awards for design under his belt and permanent art pieces in leading museums, including the Museum of Modern Art (MoMa) and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. What an insane sentence! But the pedigree stands: the man knows design, and the industry knows it. So, when he revved up the grill design firm Fuego and began prototyping gas grills, people started paying attention.
Fuego’s focus quickly adopted an interesting problem to tackle: why can’t a gas grill get to temperature at rocket speed? As it turns out, it can. Fuego BBQ grills reach maximum heat at 650 degrees Fahrenheit, and they do it in under 10 minutes (unless you swing for a Fuego Professional grill — now we’re talking 500 degrees in half that time, with even higher heat around the corner). Both existing product lines are robustly built with excellent features at fantastically economic prices.
First up, Fuego F-Series grills: these gas grills feature push-button ignition on 27-inch and 36-inch configurations. Either version of this series ships fully assembled and arrives with recessed folding shelves that, apiece, can support 25 pounds of weight (we shouldn’t have to tell you that we’re talking plenty of burgers here). Fuego F-Series BBQ grills rock several U-shaped burners that pump 20,000 BTUs of heat — the smaller variety gets two, whereas the beefier edition adds a third. Those sorts of numbers propel this gas grill to sky-high temperatures faster than you can say, “Wait a minute, didn’t you say 26 industry awards?”
But if you want a grill that truly does belong in a museum, well…
Fuego Professional Grills
Sure, it looks like a time-traveling future grill. But when your grid grates veer from room temperature to a piping-hot 500 degrees in under 5 minutes, aren’t you living in the world of tomorrow?
Fuego Professional grills look like an art statement¬ — and you’ll swear that cooking on this thing is like poetry in motion. Atop a 4-wheeled base for outstanding maneuverability, this grill is powered by a 21,000-BTU dual zone burner system and concentric circle dual ring burner. Heartily handling temperatures between 250–650 degrees, it excels at indirect heating through the outer ring, while thriving at those soaring heat levels via the direct heating of the central ring. Its vertical design and space-saving measures channel heat efficiently; it requires less air flow for grilling, reaches temperatures faster, and offers better juice retention than you’re probably used to.
And the eye-catching aesthetic? Once again, we have Robert Brunner to thank for that: not only is he the co-founder of Fuego, he’s the former Director of Industrial Design at Apple (yes, that Apple). Though this sleek grill looks right at home in any museum or cyberpunk film, it doesn’t skimp on the sturdy construction. Toss on the 15-pound porcelain enamel cast iron grate, and you get what Fuego calls “a massive heat sink producing amazing sear marks.” We’re inclined to agree.
